Central Asia: The Silk Road Tour

A tour that imbibes the spirit of the caravan countries of the yester centuries. The Silk Road Tour visits countries of civilization, crosses through the deserts and the highest mountain paths. This is an experience to see different cultures that inhibit the region of Central Asia.

 

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 01 WED: Arrive Tashkent.
Meeting and transfer to your hotel. Check-in time at the hotel is 3 p.m.

Day 02 THR: AM Tashkent to Urgench – flight. PM Khiva sightseeing tour.
Morning transfer to the airport for flight to Urgench.

In the western part of Uzbekistan, on the left bank of the Amu-Darya River, in the transition zone between the sultry deserts of Karakum and Kyzylkum lays the land of Khorezm oasis. Khiva is situated in this ancient area.

Day 03 FRI: Khiva to Bukhara – road transfer
Morning departure for Bukhara via the Kyzylkum (red sands) Desert.
The barren countryside is the home to ground squirrels and tortoises. En route stop to see the Amudarya River, known to explorers as the Oxus. In ancient time Amudarya River divided the Persian and Turkic worlds.

Day 04 SAT: Bukhara – Full day sightseeing tour.
Bukhara is one of the ancient cities of Uzbekistan. There are a lot of historical and archaeological monuments. We will explore: Kalon Minaret, Kalon Mosque and Mir-i-Arab Madrasah, Toki-Sarafon (cupola of moneychangers), the Ark Citadel, Bolo-Khauz Mosque, Toki-Telpak Furushon, Toki-Zargaron, Abdullakhan Tim, Ulugbek Madrasah, Magoki-Attori Mosque, Lyabi-Khauz, Samanid's Mausoleum

Day 05 SUN: Bukhara to Samarkand – road transfer via Shakhrisiabz.
AM departure for Samarkand. En route see the fine panorama of Kashkadarya river valley and the ancient town of Shakhrisiabz. It located to the south of Samarkand and is well known as a birthplace of great Tamerlane. Such monuments as Ak-Sarai ,Dorut Tilovat ,Dorus Siodat Seat of Power and Might and Khudjum Souvenir Factory are open for your seeing.

Day 06 MON: Samarkand – Full day sightseeing tour.
Of all Central Asian cities, Samarkand is the one which most fires the imagination. Samarkand officially celebrated its 2500th birthday in 1970 though it is probably much older then this. Full day tour for you to see Registan Square, Ulugbek Madrasah , Shir-Dor Madrasah, Tillya-Kari Madrasah, Bibi Khanum Mosque, Shakhi Zinda Necropolis, Gur Emir, Ulugbek's Observatory, Afrosiab Site & Museum.

Day 07 TUE: AM Samarkand to Tashkent – road transfer.PM Sightseeing tour

Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, is situated at an altitude of 750 meters above sea level. The word Bishkek means a churn used to make fermented mare's milk.
Afternoon visiting Osh Bazaar, Kyrgyz State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, The central department store “ZUM”, Philharmonic Hall near Manas Square. People come here to see the colorful and traditional folk show.

Day 09 THR: Bishkek to Naryn - road transfer.
Morning departure for Naryn. En route you can see Burana Tower. Burana was the site of an ancient settlement of the 10th century that is identified with the historical city Balasagun, which was the capital of the Karakhanids State. Only central ruins of inner city (Shakhristan), measuring 570 to 600 meters, were preserved from the primary square of the medieval city, which used to be 30 square km. A cultural layer of the city hides numerous remains of building of the 10th to 14th centuries.

Day 10 FRI: Naryn to Kashgar - road transfer.

Day 11 SAT: Kashgar sightseeing tour.

Kashgar lies 1,300 meters high on the bank of Tuman River in the middle of irrigation oasis with cotton and agricultural cultivation.
Morning visit historical and archeological sites which includes the following the Id Kah Mosque, located in the centre of the city. This grand Islamic structure is a stark contrast to many Chinese-style mosques in Xi'an. Being the largest in China, it attracts more than 10,000 worshipers for prayers on a Friday afternoon. Your tour also includes visit to the Tomb of Abakh Khoja, the powerful ruler of Kashgar in the 17th century who was revered as a prophet and second only to the Prophet Mohammed.

Day 12 SUN: AM Visit the Sunday Bazaar. PM Kashgar to Tashkorgan- road transfer.
Morning visit Sunday Bazaar in Kashgar! Once a week, on Sundays, the population swells by over 100,000 people – all have varied ethnic origins like Uyghurs, Tajiks, Kyrgyzs, and Kazakhs etc. selling wares from scissors to a camel.
In the afternoon drive to Tashkorgan, a city once controlled by the Bolsheviks.

Day 13 MON: Tashkorgan to Hunza via the Khunjerab Pass – road transfer.

A drive via the Khunjerab Pass will get you into Pakistan to the mountain kingdom of Hunza. The Khunjerab Pass, which at an altitude of 4733 m is the highest point on the Karakoram Highway. At Khunjerab, now declared a national park, one can see Marco Polo Sheep (ovis ammon poli).

Day 14 TUE: Hunza full day sightseeing tour.
Hunza is small mountainous region, lies on the ancient trade route to Kashgar in the Chinese province of Sinkiang. The tour will include meeting with local folks and also visit some of the important historical sites including Baltit Fort, the Ganesh Watch Tower, Nagar Valley, Hopper Glacier .

Day 15 WED: Hunza to Chilas via Gilgit – road transfer. En route sightseeing of Gilgit and Kargah.
Transfer to Gilgit and on arrival of city tour of Gilgit and Kargah.
A visit to Gilgit and its bazaar will give you an opportunity to become acquainted with mountain people. Situated 15 km southwest of Gilgit is Kargah, a small valley with several large rock carvings of Lord Buddha.
Following the down stream course of River Indus, we will drive to Chilas with stops at the confluence of River Indus & Gilgit, Karakoram, Himalayas, Hindu Kush, Nanga Parbat, and Chilas rocks.

Day 16 THR: Chilas to Swat Valley. Spectacular scenery all the way.

Day 17 FRI: AM Swat Valley sightseeing tour. PM at leisure.
Half day sightseeing tour to Swat Valley. The Swat Valley is the ancient Buddhist land of “Udeyana” which served as a threshold to western Asia and China. Here was the sacred cradle of Buddhism, where fourteen hundred monasteries flourished at one time. This is the land where Alexander the Great fought and
won some of his major battles and where Mahmood of Ghaznavi, Babar and Akbar the Great fought their fierce battles. Visit to Saidu Sharif, Swat Museum, Mingora, Maraghzar and Safed Mahal, a white marble palace that was once the residence of the former Wali (ruler) of Swat.

Day 18 SAT: Swat Valley to Peshawar – road transfer via Takht-i-bhai.
Morning departure for Peshawar. Driving along the picturesque Malakand Pass you will first visit the magnificent ancient Buddhist monastery Takht-i-Bhai. Takht-e-Bhai. Here the chapels for votive stupas and statues surround the main stupa. Other establishments include numerous monastic cells and ruins of votive stupas.

Day 19 SUN: Peshawar sightseeing tour and Khyber Pass.
An ancient city of Central Asia, Peshawar is situated at the mouth of the historic Khyber Pass, in a valley of colors and flowers. We will visit the Yadgar Square, Mahbbat Khan Mosque, Bater Bazaar, Mochi Lara, Charsadda, Bala Hisar Fort, Jamrud Fort. We also visit the Khyber Pass, which is famous by forts such as Jamrud, Shagai and bazaar of Landi Kotal.

Day 20 MON: Peshawar to Islamabad – road transfer via Taxila.
Morning departure for Islamabad. En route visit Taxila, which is famous for the rare specimens of stucco from the Gandhara period excavated from Sirkap and various Buddhist Stupas and Monasteries.

Day 21 TUE: AM Islamabad sightseeing tour. PM Islamabad departure.
Islamabad is the capital of Pakistan. It is modern and cultural city.
Morning visit the Institute of Folk Heritage and Shakerparian Gardens, old Islamabad where Saidpur Village still survives amid the modern planning and also world’s largest mosque, named after the late King Faisal of Saudi Arabia.
Later transfer to airport. Assistance on departure.
Check-out time at the hotel is 12 noon
